When ENVEA UK’s in-house IT team left unexpectedly, the industrial air pollution monitoring company faced the challenging prospect of maintaining operations without IT support.
Stepping in quickly, ctm not only kept ENVEA UK running smoothly, but also streamlined their IT systems, cut costs, and provided a platform for future growth. What began as a response to an emergency has developed into a trusted, long-term partnership, enabling ENVEA UK to operate efficiently and expand with confidence.
“I wholly recommend ctm to other businesses of this size and even larger. Having worked for many companies and seen the pressure IT staff are under, I know the value of a dedicated team who really know what they’re doing.” Lynsey Newbury, Group Financial Controller
ENVEA UK specialises in pollution monitoring technology. Their equipment is integral to industrial operations worldwide, helping businesses monitor and control emissions.
"We create dust monitors for anything with a chimney stack — from gypsum plants to flour mills to power stations," explains Lynsey Newbury, ENVEA’s Group Financial Controller.
For years, the company had relied on a small in-house IT team. But when both team members gave notice, ENVEA had to prepare for losing all IT support within days.
"Originally, we had two people running IT in-house. They did a great job, but our IT needs got more complicated as we grew. When both decided to leave, we suddenly faced having no IT department within a couple of weeks," Lynsey recalls.
Turning to Rupert Davey, ctm’s Managing Director — a trusted contact she had worked with in the past — Lynsey found the immediate help she needed. "I was always very impressed by ctm’s fantastic customer service. They really helped us at my previous company, not just with IT equipment but also improving business processes.”
“Within 48 hours, ctm had assessed what we needed and confirmed they could help. They took over our IT within days, so there was no gap when our IT people left.” Lynsey Newbury, Group Financial Controller
After assessing ENVEA UK’s IT setup, ctm set about streamlining it, making systems both simpler and more cost-effective.
“ctm told us, ‘you've got a great IT system here, but it's meant for a company that's got 450 employees and you've got 75’,” recalls Lynsey. “ctm also confirmed we didn’t need the external backup service we had, and instead set up in-house backups.”
“ctm rationalised our IT setup, saving us a lot of money and making it a lot simpler to use and manage.” Lynsey Newbury, Group Financial Controller
For Lynsey, it’s not only the original cost savings but the value of ctm’s ongoing support that matters. “ctm are neither very expensive nor the cheapest option, but they deliver great value for money,” she says.
“Rupert has trained all of ctm’s people to be super-duper Microsoft 365 users. He’s got the best star rating with Microsoft, so he gets a good discount — and he very kindly passes that on to us with a good deal on licenses.”
Beyond day-to-day IT support for ENVEA UK’s Cambridge and Birmingham sites, ctm has supported the company through significant operational changes.
When ENVEA UK relocated its Cambridgeshire factory operations from three separate sites to a single new facility, ctm handled the IT transition.
“ctm provided really excellent service when we moved our factory. They managed the entire IT move, designing the new system and ensuring very little downtime. We shut down on Friday and were back up and running on Monday.” Lynsey Newbury, Group Financial Controller
Globally, ctm liaises with ENVEA headquarters in France to ensure efficient collaboration with additional input into the group’s longer-term IT strategy.
As the main point of contact for IT at ENVEA UK’s Cambridge site, Facilities Manager Natasha Bacelar values the ctm team’s helpful, friendly approach.
“Our interactions with ctm are typically amazing. Everyone is personable and approachable. I don’t have technical IT knowhow, but I can call them with what feels like a dumb question, and they’ll help. Even when I don’t know the technical details, the ctm team are great at diagnosing the issue.” Natasha Bacelar, Facilities Manager
As well as troubleshooting, ctm are also proactive about keeping ENVEA’s operations running smoothly. "ctm always give advice about upgrades or changes we need to make, like our upcoming migration to Windows 11,” Natasha says. “It will be a massive project as we’ll need to replace 87 computers."
Lynsey agrees: “Everyone at ctm is very well trained and stays up to date with technological developments. Rupert and his team are always looking for ways to help you maximise the benefits you can get from Microsoft 365.”
For ENVEA UK, ctm has become more than a supplier — they’re a trusted partner. Outsourcing IT has not only reduced risk but also allowed ENVEA UK to focus on their core expertise.
“We live in a digital world, so reliable IT is essential. You can't provide that service in-house because there's so much risk: people go off sick, or on holiday, or they leave,” Lynsey says.
“We’re experts in dust and gas monitoring, but not in Microsoft 365 or PCs. ctm are IT experts, so by partnering with them we get top-quality IT while we focus on what we’re good at.” Lynsey Newbury, Group Financial Controller
